One of the basic human needs is sleeping; we need rest to function daily. Sleep affects our ability to perform at work and our overall health. Innovations in sleep technology are now helping those who struggle with disrupted sleep. Sleep disturbance can be caused by several factors, such as an uncomfortable room environment or health issues.

Sleep apps have been developed to help those who struggle with external disturbances such as sound, light, temperature, humidity, and air pressure. For example, there are apps with noise cancellation features or nature sounds to help someone struggling with noise disturbances obtain a restful night's sleep. In addition, some apps are even linked to blinds that electronically go up or down based on the time to help block light from disrupting sleep. Some apps detect the air pressure and humidity in the room by using sleep pods that carefully regulate moisture and air pressure to make breathing easier for those who struggle with allergies or other breathing conditions. Those who suffer from sleep apnea can use the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine to treat snoring, which was once only treated with surgery.


Sleep apps also are a convenient way to track sleep patterns to help find a way to solve the cause of disturbances in sleep. In addition, sleep apps are another convenient tool to share data with physicians specialized in improving one's sleep. Telemedicine is another tool that allows easy access to board-certified sleep physicians to help those with busy schedules. The advancements in sleep apps have proven to be an alternative to medications that can cause adverse long-term effects on an individual. The increasing availability of apps for different sleeping disturbances offers hope to those struggling to get a restful night's sleep.
